This week we went on our annual vacation to Lake Winnibigosh. Family on my Grandma Meredith's side have been doing this week for over 40 years now. Ryan wasn't able to go with us because he used all of his vacation when Brenley was sick, so I was a little worried about taking the kids by myself for the week, but everything went well and we had a great time.
We needed a stretch on the way and stopped at the kneeling Paul Bunyan statue in Akely. In typical 2 year old thinking (I hope!), when Brody got down he walked around the statue, stopped and said, "Whoa - big butt!". He quickly added, "Not poopin".
This is the whole crew minus four from Mississippi who weren't there yet, my mom who is taking the picture, and Claire, who didn't want to be in it:). The first picture everyone was told to say "cheese". Now Heidi is telling everyone for this one to say "Heidi's pregnant"! We are so excited for a new baby! Congratulations, Nate and Heidi!
The kids spent a lot of time at the playground. It was fun to watch Brody play with all the kids while the adults just watched. He is such a monkey, scampering to the top of the slide saying "NO help me".
This is Winnie, the resort dog. She makes the rounds of all the cabins looking for treats, and is so gentle with all of the kids.
Seems hard to believe with the summer we have had, but we were only able to get to the pool twice because it was too cold! Brenley liked it but didn't last too long. Brody was in a constant spasm from the cold air and the cold water, and of course, wanted all of Brenley's water toys.
There were 7 children in camp this year, including three 2 yr. olds! Made for some lively mealtimes, but breakfasts in Cabin 8 were still a pretty calm time of day.
Tuesday afternoon brought the fishing contest. Despite lots of help and cheering fans on shore, Brody didn't catch a fish. We'll get 'em next year!
Brody had to wait until Thursday to get his boat ride, but it was worth the wait. With all the golf cart and gator driving he has done this summer, he was actually able to drive the boat through the weedy channels. Brenley needed a little more help - and yes, she did have a life jacket, but it was just way too uncomfortable so I took it off.
Looking back at the week, I can see why we had to come home to get some rest, but can't wait until next year!
